Third case of assault on an “UDAR” activist in the Dnipro district of Kyiv

In just the last month, three “UDAR” representatives have been assaulted in the Ukrainian capital. This time around, the victim was Kateryna Ananiyeva, an activist who campaigned for the party on General Zhmachenko Street, near “Peremoha” park of the Dnipro district of the city, which is part of the single-mandate district #214.

According to the activist, a big man about 45 years of age came from an unknown direction. He immediately began tearing up campaign materials, cursing at the “UDAR” party, and then used force against the victim. The activist received a serious leg injury as well as an arm injury. Ananiyeva officially requested the law enforcement to investigate the assault.

It’s worth noting that this is the third case of such an assault in the Dnipro district of Kyiv. On August 21, three unknown people attacked the Deputy Head of the “UDAR” campaign office of the same district, Oleksandr Voskolovych. On August 27, Taras Dyachenko, head of the party’s local headquarters, was also assaulted. The party has ruled out the robbery motive, since the victims’ personal possessions remained intact.

Andriy Strannikov, a candidate from the “UDAR” party believes that these attacks are connected with the election campaign. He commented, “Single-mandate district #214 is becoming one of the most criminogenic districts in the capital. Recently, candidate Oleh Boyko was hospitalized with 7 stab wounds. The third assault on our activists in three weeks further demonstrates that someone is nervous about their chances to be elected; the electoral competition is turning into a struggle with criminal “authorities” stubbornly fighting for a seat in the future parliament.”
