UDAR demands to provide funds for early elections in Budget 2014

UDAR demands to make provisions in the State Budget for 2014 for early presidential and parliamentary elections. Particularly, the deputy head of UDAR, member of the Parliament Vitali Kovalchuk proposed an amendment to the Parliament to allocate for this purpose almost UAH 2 billion.

It is expected to spend nearly 919 million for snap presidential elections. However, early parliamentary elections will cost UAH 1 billion 42 thousand.

The MP suggests provision of funding for early elections may be secured through cuts of the Interior Ministry funding. According to Kovalchuk , government’s intention to increase funding for the Interior Ministry to nearly 2.5 billion is unreasonable.

"Given the current political and legal situation prevailing in Ukraine, and the apparent crisis of legitimacy of the President and Parliament as a result of a significant loss of confidence among the citizens of Ukraine, it is necessary to make provisions for funds for early elections. This will secure a constructive and legitimate way to overcome the political crisis in the country", Vitali Kovalchuk noted.
