Presidential elections on May 25 should consolidate the society rather than become another war of all against all, leader of UDAR Vitali Klitschko said during a speech at the XI All-Ukrainian conference of UDAR Party.

"The situation calls for consolidation and unification of efforts for the unity of the country. The next president of Ukraine shall have the maximum possible support of people in the present context. This can be achieved only if you do not stretch the votes between democratic candidates," Vitali Klitschko said.

He stressed that the only way to ensure the unity and a high level of legitimacy is to nominate a single candidate of the democratic forces.

"I always said it should be the candidate, who people support the most and who has the highest chance of winning. Today, Petro Poroshenko is such a candidate. We stood and fought side by side on Maidan. We will keep on working on the transformation of Ukraine side by side,” UDAR leader said. “I am sure that should other democratic forces support a single candidate, we would get the victory in the first round. This would not only be a demonstration of our unity, but also save substantial funds of Ukriaine’s public budget," Klitschko stressed.

The politician pointed out that he was ready to take responsibility for changes in the country, and therefore had decided to run for mayor of Kyiv. "I will make Kyiv a truly European capital. Together we will make Ukraine a European country," Vitali Klitschko added.

He also underlined the importance of presidential and Kyiv mayoral elections to be held fairly.
