"I would like to ask Department of Housing together with the Department of Social Policy to submit a detailed justification of all tariffs components, to make prices for each service clear and understandable. Kyivans should know what they pay for,” Vitali Klitschko said. “Moreover, we expect increase in utility tariffs. Last week the National Commission for housing services has increased tariffs for about 30 cities, and this week they are considering Kyiv."
He reminded that tariffs increase to the economically justified levels is a requirement of the IMF. The government would not otherwise have been able to get loans to stabilize economics in the country.
However, Kyiv mayor stressed, the city authorities would not abandon disadvantaged Kyivans. "Housing Department together with Social Policy Department should develop an effective mechanism to protect socially vulnerable groups. Explain this mechanism to the Kyiv residents and ensure efficient operation of subsidies and compensation for housing and communal services payment in the new conditions," Klitschko ordered.
