Klitschko expresses condolences over Eduard Shevardnadze death

Kyiv city mayor Vitali Klitschko expressed condolences over the death of a prominent politician, the last foreign minister of the USSR, former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze.

"Eduard Amvrosiyevych has greatly contributed to the withdrawal of the Soviet Union armed forces from Afghanistan, the process of reunification of Germany, the end of the "Cold War"б and beginning of the disarmament process, democratization of the Soviet Union. He was an outstanding diplomat, who was respectfully called as a “gray fox”, a man with a good sense of humour and a great friend of Ukraine,” Klitschko said. “Eduard Shevardnadze has always emphasized that democracy is the only way to build a strong state. And he, as a President, has set Georgia’s course on European integration, as he saw no alternative for the development of his country. Today Georgia is going through the path to the European community with a unprecedented success," Vitali Klitschko stressed.

Kyiv city mayor expressed his condolences to the Georgian people, family and friends of Eduard Shevardnadze.
