It cannot be ruled out that on August 24 President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko may exercise his right to call for early parliamentary elections, head of the UDAR parliamentary faction Vitaliy Kovalchuk told journalists after consultation of leaders of factions of the Verkhovna Rada with the President.

"From 00.00 of August 24, 2014 the President of Ukraine Poroshenko will have a legal right to sign a decree on the appointment of early parliamentary elections," Vitaliy Kovalchuk said. He noted that in such a case elections may be held by the end of October.

The UDAR faction head added that it had been emphasized during the meeting that even in case of appointing of an early election, Parliament would continue its work in a normal way. Vitaliy Kovalchuk said tht a new session of parliament starts on September 2, when a number of essential issues would be considered. "The President of Ukraine stressed that we must consider amendments to the electoral legislation. If the bill does not find support in the hall, parliament should consider amending the district boundaries in Luhansk and Donetsk regions to ensure voting in majority districts," he said. Vitaliy Kovalchuk added that Parliament must cut costs of the electoral campaign and set them at the level of UAH 600 million.
